Examinations Services: Invigilator Job Description

Job Aim To invigilate exams to British Council and Exam Board standards. Skills, Experience required Very good command of English Previous invigilating experience Essential Desirable

THE INVIGILATOR MUST: Attend one initial training session before conducting any invigilation duties. Attend one annual refresher training session. Sign and return one copy of his/her agreement. Be familiar with all relevant notices, instructions and requirements relating to the specific examination. Be smartly and appropriately dressed with no noisy jewellery or heels. Be impartially friendly to candidates. Be punctual. Adhere to all instructions issued by the supervisor/examination board. Place signs and notices outside the exam room as per the supervisors/examination boards instructions. Check each candidates ID and statement of entry (if applicable) before and during the exam. Issue correct exam stationary promptly and efficiently. Monitor candidates unobtrusively. Ensure only permitted materials are on each candidates desk (e.g. pen, pencil, eraser, test paper, ID) Ensure that candidates do not communicate with each other. Check that all candidates in allocated rows transfer their answers to mark sheets if applicable. Return all papers, sorted according to instructions, to the supervisor (if one is present). Refer candidates enquiries to examinations supervisors or the Exams team where appropriate. Ensure that no unauthorised persons enter the examination room. THE INVIGILATOR MUST NOT: Read the candidates scripts. Read books, magazines, newspapers during the examination. Make/receive calls. Answer candidates questions concerning the content of the examination. Talk to other invigilators if more are present during the exam. Smoke/eat in the examination room or outside during the test. Leave the examination room during the exam without permission from the supervisor, if one is present, or the Exams Team.
