Heesu Jung, the Korean student in 7th grade saves the Earth with saving electricity. This is the chart of Heesus familys electricity consumption from August, 2012 to February, 2013. Although the monthly kWh didnt always decrease, there are reasons. On August , his family wasnt home for a few days because they were in Korea and thats why the kWh is much lower than normally it is. On January, there was a huge increase. It is because his grandparents and aunt stayed in his house for a week. On February, Heesus family succeeded to pull down the electricity to lowest. To decrease the electricity usage, Heesus family tried hard to change their habits of using electricity. They tried to decrease the amount of kWh they use by trying to not to waste electricity. For example, they always turned off fans, lights (sometimes turned on when he got a dog), television, computers, A/Cs and outlets. This is the graph of Heesus familys electricity consumption. Heesu first found the fitted line (line on the graph above). To predict how long it would take to reach 300 kWh, he needed a good equation. To get equation, he realized that slope is needed. Heesu found that while x value increase 6 times, y value decreased 30 times. The slope is rise/run so it is -30/6 which is -5. y=5x+b. To find y intercept, Heesu used a point from the fitted line; (1,428). 428=-5+b. b=433. The equation is y=-5x+433. To find how long it will take to reach 300 kWh, Heesu put 300 for y and he knew that x will be the month that has result of 300 kWh. 300=-5x+433, 5x=433-300, 5x=133, x=133/5, x=26.6. He found that it takes 26.6 months from August.

I chose to save electricity because I found out that electricity is being wasted in our home and what I think is that decreasing wasting energy will be one of the most helpful things I can do for the environment. This age needs much power of electronics and it is necessary to our life. It is depleting and it will be gone in few years but if people in this whole wide world dont try to reduce using electricity, it will deplete up faster and faster. I wanted to be both electricity saver and Earth saver by saving electricity.
