HIPPS is widely accepted as the ultimate protection system for flowlines and downstream production equipment because it is independently instrumented and can be designed with higher system integrity than the more traditional emergency shutdown and process systems like bursting discs and relief valves. The drivers for HIPPS applications are safety, environmental and economic. They are safety critical installations and an enabling technology that contributes towards bringing viability to a marginal development. A HIPPS application is considered to be the ideal solution for asset protection where pressure relief devices are impractical and environmental constraints are prohibitive. HIPPS is also ideal where it can be demonstrated that its installation will exceed original design parameters under fault conditions, e.g. onshore and offshore oil and gas plants for both surface, subsea and pipelines. For over 35 years Hima-Sella has been actively involved in the design and delivery of hundreds of control and safety systems to the oil and gas industry. This includes onshore and offshore applications. Hima-Sellas expertise encompasses a wide range of engineering disciplines, and provides bespoke solutions up to and including Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3. They bring considerable experience in the supply of safety related systems, including ESD, PSD and HIPPS, Burner Management and Fire & Gas systems. In 2001, Hima-Sella was awarded the first CASS certificate (number 00001) for Functional Safety Management, in compliance with IEC 61508 and has retained this certificate ever since. They continue to deliver cost effective and compliant safety system solutions. Hima-Sella has certified management systems in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001:2008.

For topside and onshore HIPPS applications Hima-Sella offers the solid state Planar4 system. Based on well proven technology of the Planar F system, the Planar4 system delivers solutions that are an ideal combination of maximum level of safety that can be achieved technically, absolute reliability and a minimum of lifecycle costs.
