Analysis of Mars Dosha as per KP Principles

Kanak Bosmia kanakbosmia@yahoo.com Rangarajan Krishnamoorthy ranga@mmsindia.com July 28, 2007 Shri.KSK and his followers have enumerated various rules characterizing Mars dosha and its impact on marriage. Every time an example is discussed, one such rule is cited in support of the example. We decided to study Mars dosha in greater detail along two dimensions: 1) Clearly identify the rules that are supposed to indicate Mars dosha in a chart 2) Apply the rules to a reasonably large data set to determine if Mars dosha has an effect on these data We will first list the 11 rules that we picked from various sources, as defining Mars dosha in a chart cast as per KP principles. R1) Mars in own star or in Sun star, and occupying any of 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 12 R2) Any planet deposited in the Star or Sub of Mars, and occupying 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 12 R3) 7th CSL is Mars and is located in 6, 10 or 12 R4) 7th CSL is in the star of Mars and is located in 6, 10 or 12 R5) 7th CSL is in the sub of Mars and is located in 6, 10 or 12 R6) 7th CSL is Sat and is located in 6, 10 or 12 R7) 7th CSL is in the star of Sat and is located in 6, 10 or 12 R8) 7th CSL is in the sub of Sat and is located in 6, 10 or 12 R9) Mars is the 7th CSL and is located in 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 12 R10) Mars is the starlord of the sublord of 7th cusp and is located in 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 12 R11) Mars is the sublord of the sublord of 7th cusp and is located in 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 12 We got hold of fairly reliable birth data of persons with single or multiple marriages. The following table shows the data set size. Number of Sample Marriages Size 1 103 2 26 4 23 5 15 6 1 7 2 9 2

Thus a total of 172 charts were analyzed. Analysis Methodolgy Since both the number of rules and the size of the data are large, we decided to do a computer analysis rather than doing it manually. A program was written to encode the above 11 rules, and to apply the rules on the given data. When looking at each chart, the program would emit yes if a particular rule was satisfied on the chart, or would emit no. The result was then loaded into Miscosoft Excel program for a manual interpretation of the results. Instead of merely stopping with this, we decided to go one step further. What if the data sets we used were not accurate enough? Although the charts were rated AA, we did not want to exclude the possibility of marginal error in the birth time. We adopted a fairly novel approach here. Since the focal point of our analysis was the 7th cusp, we decided to consider two more time points for each chart where the 7th CSL was the previous sublord, or the next sublord. We used a maximum time offset of 10 minutes from the given time since we did not believe the birth time could be off by more than that interval in each direction. For instance, if the 7th CSL for the given birth time was Jupiter, the program computed the time when the 7th CSL was Rahu (previous sublord) and the time when the 7th CSL was Saturn (next sublord). It then applied all the 11 rules to these two hypothetical charts. Analysis Results Table-1 shows the results for the given time, Table-2 for the earlier sublord and Table-3 for the next sublord as explained above. For each rule, the value given is the percentage of cases where the rule is satisfied. The numbers in brackets indicate the sample size in the respective category. Conclusion From the analysis performed, it appears that there is no strong correlation between Mars dosha and marriage. We consider this study as a starting point. If readers have any suggestions for improving the study by providing more sample data, or by revising the rules used, they are most welcome to communicate with us. **** END ****
