The Outsiders and America in the

1960’s
Now that you have finished reading S.E. Hinton’s novel The
Outsiders, you will be conducting research and creating a
presentation to teach your peers about an aspect of
America in the 1960’s that interests you.

Your presentation MUST include:

1. Information from scholarly sources (we will be
going over this in class)
2. Background information on your topic. Who?
What? When? Where? Why? How?
3. How does your topic relate to The Outsiders?
What evidence from the text points to this
relationship? (at least 2 points of evidence to
show relationship).
4. Why is your topic important? (answer any
number of these questions) What does it tell us
about our society today? Do we still see
anything related to your topic in today’s world?
Why did you choose your topic? What new
information did you learn? Did you learn
anything that you found shocking about your
topic?

 Presentations should be 7-9 minutes each

 You must include at least 2 visual aids and incorporate them into
your presentation
 You will submit a 2 page research paper, which includes a thesis
and supporting evidence
 You will work individually
 You MUST submit a research proposal to me BEFORE starting
