 Develop relevant, interesting, and researchable questions
 Begin with a list of basic questions that are relevant to the topic
 Focus in getting the basic facts that answer the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, and
HOW of the topic
 Think of questions that may provide interesting perspective that makes the readers think
 Check if your questions are researchable
 Ask questions that will uncover facts, statistics, case studies, and other documentable evidences
 Clarify your thesis statement
 Document your sources
 Support your idea with relevant evidences (facts, anecdotes, statistics) from reliable sources
 Use the internet, online libraries, periodicals, almanacs, encyclopedia
 Use key word search and conduct subject searches if you’re using the internet

Directions: Find a partner whom you can easily communicate with. Take turns in
answering the following questions and do this activity in your notebook.

3. Do you have a special hobby? What are your special collections of things?
4. What subjects/topics do you enjoy writing, thinking, wondering, and talking about?
5. What are the subjects you’d like to learn more about?
6. Has there been something in the news that intrigues you?
7. Have you tried scanning a computer index for a target subject for research?
8. Have you tried flipping through the volumes of encyclopedia for an interesting topic?
9. Do you have unanswered questions that you would like to research on?

After answering the questions, make a list of all the subjects of both your interest and rank them
based on your preferences. Choose the first five in the list.

Narrow it Down
Directions: Still with your partner, revisit your list of preferred topics. Choose one from
the list and do the following:

 Use clustering/mapping of your chosen topics
