Renu Murik

Introduction

The director of strategic investments and services innovations for the Montvale, New Jersey, office of KPMG, Renu Anne Murik began her tenure with the Big Four accounting firm in 2001, when she joined its Los Angeles office as Director of Advisory Services. Prior to joining KPMG, Ms. Murik worked as a manager in the Sydney, Australia office of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), another Big Four firm. In addition to her professional responsibilities at KPMG, Renu Murik is a member of KNOW, the KPMG Network of Women.

About KNOW

Now in its tenth anniversary year, KNOW was established by the firms Womens Advisory Board (WAB) in 2003. As their names suggest, the WAB is a group of generally highly placed partners and directors that makes policy recommendations, while the KNOWs membership consists of professional and other employees in all of KPMGs many offices worldwide. The two groups work closely together in pursuit of KPMGs goal of improving its retention of women employees by creating a work environment that is more compelling and that enhances womens career opportunities.

Conclusion

As a direct result of the firmwide initiatives developed and driven by WAB and KNOW to improve the professional and personal growth of women, KPMG today has developed a firm-wide diversity strategy called the Great Place to Build a Career. This is a wide-ranging set of interrelated programs, benefits, and resources that impact all elements of the KPMG employee experience, with the objective of making the firm an employer of choice. KPMGs implementation of the Great Place to Build a Career strategy earned it the Catalyst Award in 2009, a prestigious honor given to companies with innovative policies and practices that produce results whichaddress the professional advancement of all women.
