FAULCONER COMMENTS ON MAYORS CITY ATTORNEY VETO AND MANAGED COMPETITION RESOLUTION Commends City Council for bipartisan support of managed competition, denounces Mayors partisan veto
SAN DIEGO --- Today, Councilmember Kevin Faulconer released the following statements regarding two key votes cast by the City Council. Reaffirming the Councils support for the voter-approved managed competition program I authored this resolution to communicate a clear message to San Diegans: I and the City Council are committed to running an efficient city government that is focused on reducing unnecessary overhead and delivering effective services to our neighborhoods. The Mayors refusal to move forward on managed competition is costing San Diego taxpayers millions of dollars in missed streamlining opportunities. Im thankful to my Council colleagues for granting my resolution bipartisan support, and I hope Mayor Filner listens and agrees to cut government waste by lifting his freeze on managed competition. Mayor Filners veto of City Attorney budget restoration Mayor Filners veto is petty, political and partisan. His veto means the City Attorneys Neighborhood Prosecution Unit which works directly with San Diegans to help fight quality of life crimes including graffiti and gangs will likely be cut. San Diegans deserve better than Mayoral actions that prioritize politics over neighborhoods. ###
