Option #1 August 19 and 20 Nottawasaga Inn and Resort Training focuses on providing educational staff new to teaching or new to the field of ASD with teaching strategies proven effective in school settings. Over Monday, August 19 and Tuesday Aug 20, this training will explore the components of communication, social understanding, sensory processing and anxiety. The cognitive components of executive function and learning styles will also be examined and the impact that all of these components have on behaviour will be discussed. Participants will be engaged throughout the two days via group activities and a case study, and will practice developing an autism support plan based on the knowledge they will have learned. Option #2 August 19 and 20 - Nottawasaga Inn and Resort The Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) presentation will focus on the process of conducting a Functional Behaviour Assessment and the roles and responsibilities of those involved in supporting this process for students with an ASD. The focus on FBA will support educators in teaching students new skills and decreasing challenging behaviour that interfere with the learning process. The speakers will introduce ethical considerations in the implementation of a FBA and the bio-psychosocial aspects of understanding challenging behaviours often associated with ASD.
