Rationale:
The broad goal of the teaching of students in ophthalmology is to provide such knowledge and skills to the students that shall enable her to practice as a clinical and as a primary eye care physician and also to function effectively as a community health leader to assist in the implementation of National programme for the prevention of blindness.

Objectives:
By the end of this course, the students are expected to: 1. Map the anatomy of the eye 2. Describe the physiology of the eye 3. Take careful history and perform a good eye examination 4. Describe symptoms and signs of common eye diseases. 5. Diagnose and manage the following eye diseases: o Conjunctivitis: bacterial, viral, allergic and degenerative conditions. o Lid diseases. o Lacrimal apparatus.

Keratitis. Uveitis. Glaucoma. Cataract. Scleritis and episcleritis. Squint and refractive errors. Blinding diseases and its prevention. Ocular trauma. Orbit Diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy Optic atrophy

Learning methods: 1- Lectures 2- Tutorials 3- Outpatient clinic. 4- Refraction and Orthoptic unit Assessment: 1- Written examination 2- Oral structured practical examination (ospe)
