Abstract:

InterActor is a CG-embodied interaction character driven by interrobot technology (iRT) to produce communicative movements and actions based only on speech input for entrained interaction. InterAnimal is an animal character of the speech-driven embodied entrainment character InterActor with the functions of both a speaker and a listener on the basis of nonverbal entrainment such as nodding and body actions and movements coherently related to speech in face-to-face communication. Focusing on the characteristics of animal characters, a prototype of a learning system with InterAnimal and an instruction interface, wherein the teacher enacts a double role, has been developed for pleasant and effective learning. In this paper, the concept of a teaching interface with InterAnimals enacting the role of a teacher and a student in which a user plays a double role is proposed, and the prototype of the system is developed. The effectiveness of the learning system and the interface is also demonstrated by the sensory evaluation of a questionnaire and a voice analysis. http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/articleDetails. jsp?reload=true&arnumber=4600742

Development of a real-space sharing edutainment system based on communication support with makebelieve play

Yamane, M. Grad. Sch. of Sci. & Technol., Kwansei Gakuin Univ., Sanda, Japan. Yamamoto, M. ; Watanabe, T. Various e-learning systems that support remote education have been developed utilizing information technology. However, it is still not easy to communicate smoothly and to evaluate how well users of such systems have understood. We focus on communication support with make-believe play and propose a real-space sharing edutainment system that allows its users to enjoy makebelieve play. We develop a prototype of the system in which we introduce distinctive CG characters and communication support functions to enhance user communication through a virtual environment. Finally, we confirm the effectiveness of the system through an evaluation experiment.
