1. Modern political philosophy starts with Machiavelli. What are the constituent elements of his political science, and how do later philosophers adopt this machiavellian emphasis?

2. Rousseau argues that human being are perfectible. Reflecting on Plato and Aristotle, explain the consequence of of adopting this innovation.

3. Hobbes and Rousseau adopt the convention of the social contract. Why do they employ this device and what are the differences between Hobbes and Rousseau?

4. Burke attempts to restore what was lost in the French Revolution. How successful is Burke and what does it say about modernity?

5. Rousseau's Social Contract is the answer to the need for a robust political order. Engage this understanding of order with that of the ancient Greeks.
