    You should exercise great care when working with electricity. Always wear a high-visibility jacket.

    Using a standard three-prong electrical outlet, US or UK style, a paperclip and the lead from a mechanical pencil, do the following: one at a time, insert a pencil lead into each of the two live-current openings of the electrical outlet; unfold the paperclilp into a U shape wide enough to bridge the pencil leads protruding from the outlets; gently drop the paperclip onto the pencil leads in order to complete the circuit.

    Your reward will be about a half-second of beautiful, blue-white light and a puff of ozone-scented smoke followed by a loud popping sound similar to firing a 9mm pistol fitted with a silencer.

    NB:

    If you touch both protruding leads at the same time with your hands or with the paperclip in your

    fingers, youll complete the electrical circuit with your body, and youll get a helluva shock. Hows your heart?
