The biotechnology core curriculum was chosen to give trainees a basic knowledge of biotechnology fundamentals, applications, and ethics, and includes seven courses: Biochemistry and Biophysics, Eukaryotic Cell Biology, Genetics and Genomics, Ethics in Biological Research, Molecular Biology, Advances in Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering. Chemistry students will typically need to take a few extra classes in order to satisfy these requirements and to participate as funded trainees. Depending on a students undergraduate education, the requirements for biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology can be met either with the level 3 (advanced undergraduate) or a level 4 (graduate) IBiS courses. BME students have the choice of substituting certain courses (e.g. Biochemical Engineering) with their equivalents available in the BME department. Participating students, who took the aforesaid courses during their B.S. or M.S. studies, may use this form as a petition to waive this course requirement.
