EVALUATION OF DLT METHODS FOR CAMERA CALIBRATION

Abstract
Metric measurements from 2D images of machine vision are obtained using parameters of CCD camera. The process of estimation of camera parameters is known as Camera Calibration. The accuracy of calibration depends on the methods of calibration, model of the camera and number of control points. Previous literature reports that the accuracy of calculation increases with number of control points. No significant improvement in accuracy is expected after certain limit on the number of control points. However, accuracy depends on method of calibration and model of camera. A reasonable accuracy could be obtained if the limit on number of control point is established. In this concern, this paper attempts to determine the high limit on the number of control points for a desired level of accuracy. In this paper, the relation between accuracy and number of control points is established for three DLT methods viz., Standard DLT, modified DLT & Extended DLT and the results are compared.
