Figure 1.8 shows the response when square = 0.5 s, the period of the system; the dashed line shows the time scale of the input. In this case, the square wave pulse is nearly tuned to the system (i.e. near to the resonance frequency) and so the response is signicantly larger (by almost a factor of 2) than for a single on/off pulse. This is the reason why the number of allowable pilot control input reversals in a manoeuvre is strictly limited.
