Us History Andrew Jackson Political Cartoon By the time of Jacksons Presidency, the population of the United States was

beginning to need more space in order to thrive. It seemed inevitable that soon Native Americans would get pushed off their land. After the Indian Removal Act of 1830, Native Americans rebelled through the court case Cherokees vs. Georgia, in which they said it was illegal for the white men to push them off reservations, but it wasnt heard by the Supreme Court for the land of the Indians was not considered a part of the United States and therefore was not considered under the jurisdiction of the court. The Indians were forced along a path roughly 1200 miles long that resulted in thousands of deaths. This came to be called the Trail of Tears. Our cartoon illustrates the ignorance of authority on the matter of the rights of Indians and the brutality in which the Indians are forced away. The dog represents Andrew Jackson. He is chasing after a cat, which represents Native Americans. The snapping of the leash connected to the doghouse of Law illustrates how Jackson and authority were avoiding being constitutional while they were relocating the Indians, in instances such as the refusal to hear Cherokees vs, Gerogia by the Supreme Court. In conclusion and in summary, our political cartoon depicts the vicious drive that led the Jackson Administration to a very unconstitutional decision.
