Swimming Information and General Rules

Welcome to the 2013 BC Seniors Games Swimming Competition and to sunny Kamloopsthe Tournament Capital. We are looking forward to hosting you and your families for the games. Here is some information designed to help make your participation in our event the best it can be. REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN Participants must check into the Games Accreditation Centre at the Interior Savings Centre in downtown to obtain their Games badge by Wednesday at 9 pm. Accreditation takes place on Tuesday August 20 from 3 pm to 9 pm and Wed, Aug 21, 9 am to 9 pm. (Accreditation will be closed for the opening ceremony). All participants must accredit by 9pm on Wed, or they will be classified as no shows and will be unable to complete at the Games. Swimming begins at 9 am the next morning!
For the 800 m Freestyle event, confirmation of participation is required by the end of Day 1. The revised heat sheet information for the 800 m Freestyle event will be posted at the start of Day 2

VENUE The swimming competition will be held in Canada Games Pool (CGP; which is part of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre http://www.tournamentcapital.com/canada_games_aquatic_centre.htm ) in the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC)). For an overview of where this is in relation to downtown

Kamloops and other venues, please see http://www.2013kamloopsbcseniorsgames.org/visitors/about-kamloops/keylocations-map We will be using of the 50 m pool in the CGP (i.e., the deep tank) for racing; the other half (the shallow tank) will also be available for warm up, cool-down and, on Wednesday Aug 21`, for practice. For this competition the two tanks will be divided by a bulk-head, which will be used for 25 m starts during the competition. This venue is well equipped! o Bathroom facilities and changerooms are plentiful! o Refreshments may be purchased from the concession in the TCC. They serve a variety of snacks and lunch-type items. There are also snack and drink machines in the TCC. o Bottled Water is unnecessary! Kamloops water is wonderful and available from taps and drinking fountains in the TCC and the pool area. Fill your own water bottle for a handy drink.

PARKING/TRANSPORTATION Parking is available in lots all around the TCC, as well as on the adjacent TRU campus; especially convenient will be Lot S, behind the Science building (see map on the TRU website; on this map, the CGP is marked as #31) http://www.tru.ca/__shared/assets/Campus_Map9003.pdf The Games Transportation Directorate will also have an information table at Accreditation and can answer any of your transportation questions. SCHEDULES Schedules will be posted on the website by week of Aug 12thh Please keep checking the site. They will also be posted at the pool.

RESULTS An electronic timing system (touch pads and back up plungers) will used to record times and Hytek software will be used to manage the timing system and produce results. Results will be posted in the pool area START TIMES The schedule for all events will be posted on line August 13, will be available at accreditation and will be posted in the pool areas. Heat Sheets will also be available to Zone Coordinators before the event and will be posted in the pool area. The start times for each event will be adhered to as much as possible. The score clock provides information on the event and heat currently in the water; participants are responsible for being ready to start in their scheduled heats. FIRST AID First Aid is available from life guards at the pool. MEDALS Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to the top three finishers of each gender in each age category. . Medal ceremonies will be held 2 or 3 times each day (listed in the schedule) at the podium on the pool deck (i.e., in the CGP area). There will be a 15 minute warning for each ceremony and athletes can check to see if they are medalists on the results sheets, which will be posted and clearly visible on the CGP wall. COMPETITION RULES
SNC Rules of Swimming with Swim BC Technical Guide and FINA Masters exemptions will be in effect. Any physical or medical condition that hinders the correct performance of a stroke must be brought to the attention of the referee before the start of the race. A medical certificate/note is required. Relay teams must be submitted up to one and one half (1 ) hour into the start of the first event each day. Scratches must be made to the Clerk of Course by the end of warm-up each morning for the days events.

EVENTS The swimming competition consists of 20 events (as described in the schedule), including 3 official relays and a fun relay. Zone participation in the Fun Relay is encouraged! Is your Zone fun? If so, heres your chance to show it! WARM UP & PRACTICE TIMES The Canada Games Pool is available on Wednesday, 21 August for practice as follows Shallow tank: 11 am 11 pm (6 lanes) Deep tank: 5:30 pm to 11 pm (8 lanes) Both tanks are also available for the first warm up period each day and for cool down, with the deep tank being used for the second warm up on Days 1 and 2.
