WEGENERSGRANULOMATOSIS

Wegenersgranulomatosisisarareformofvasculitis.Vasculitisisaninflammationoftheblood vesselsthatlimitstheflowofbloodtoimportantorgansandtissues,causingpotentially significantdamage. Althoughthediseasecaninvolveanyorgansystem,Wegener'sgranulomatosismainlyaffectsthe respiratorytract(sinuses,nose,tracheaandlungs)andkidneys.Itaffectsmenandwomen equallybutismoreprevalentamongmiddleagedpeople.Wegenersgranulomatosisisunusual inAfricanAmericanscomparedwithCaucasians. SymptomsofWegenersgranulomatosis SymptomsofWegenersgranulomatosisareoftennotspecific.Theycanbeginslowlywithfever, weightlossandmuscleaches.Theycanalsocomeonsuddenlyandprogressquickly,leadingto kidneyfailure.EyeproblemsdevelopinmanypeoplewithWegener'sgranulomatosis.Theeye problemsrangefrommildconjunctivitistosevereswellingoftheeye.
Othersymptomsinclude: Frequentsinusitis Fatigueandgeneralmalaise Feverwithoutobviouscause Nightsweats Chronicearinfections Nosebleeds Lossofappetiteandweightloss Painandsoresaroundtheopeningofthenose Chestpain Cough,withorwithoutblood Bloodintheurine Jointpain Shortnessofbreath Wheezing
