Convocar, Mayo, Ocliasa, Pagdilao, Ramirez 080613 COM 101 C - Cabanes Baby, One More Time was the

debut single of American popstar Britney Spears. At th e time it was released, all-American teen dream Spears was most known for her ro le in the children s show Mickey Mouse Club. Controversy sparked at the provocativ e portrayal of the message of its music video, which played with the concepts of youth, innocence, and rebellion. Spears and other teenage high school girls in the said video had altered suppose dly innocent articles of clothing of their Catholic schoolgirl uniform to turn t hem into more provocative, more revealing outfits, seen in their twisting and un buttoning their white blouses to further reveal their chests and midriff areas. Contrary to the stereotypical, conservative illusion of a goody-goody schoolgirl with a decent blouse and a skirt to the knee, the music video showcases teenage schoolgirls in the polar opposite plunging necklines and cheeky hemlines. Going a gainst the tide of the norm points to the youth s advocacy of liberalism in a stat us quo of conservatism. During her time, Spears had become a symbol for female empowerment which is also symbolized by the many females in front of the two males behind them. This noti on also points to the female's struggle to adjust to the once patriarchal societ y symbolized by the narrow hallway, pointing to the struggle to break free from bo th this and the realm of conservatism the girls were kept at.
