Band Family: Below are the ac4vi4es for the upcoming week in the Lamar Band.

A"er School Rehearsals:

*Graded a?er school rehearsals begin Monday, August 26. If your student will need to miss a rehearsal, the rehearsal excuse form (located next to the band oce and aJached to this email) must be completed at least 3 school days prior to the requested excused absence. As the students gain their grade for their band par4cipa4on PE credit, it is extremely important all students aJend all mandatory a?er school rehearsals.

***Rehearsals for the week of August 26 are Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday from 4:15 PM 6:30 PM.*** Pep Rally:
The rst pep rally of the year will be Friday morning (August 30, 2013). Students should arrive to the band room no later than 7:45 AM to be ready for the pep rally. We understand some students rely on bus transporta4on and are not able to make it by the 7:45 AM start 4me. Because of this, Pep Rallies are not required or graded, but all band members who are able to par4cipate are STRONGLY EXPECTED to par4cipate in the weekly pep rallies. Pep Rallies begin EVERY GAME DAY (Friday Mornings for Saturday Games) at 8:00 AM. Parents, Alumni, Friends of Lamar HS, etc. are more than welcome to aJend the weekly pep rallies located in the courtyard directly behind the North building. Flip folders and instrument lyres will be distributed to students during the rst week of school. If your student already has a ip folder and/or instrument lyre, please remind them to bring it to school during the rst week of classes.

Football Game & Hal"ime Performance:

The rst football game of the year, Friday, August 30, 2013, is an away game. The band will be traveling to Klein ISD for the Lamar v. Klein Forest game at Klein Memorial Stadium. The band members will receive a"er school meals provided by Lamar HS. The band will depart from Lamar HS at approximately 4:45 PM. The game begins at 7:00 PM and the band will return to Lamar around 10:30 PM. Please be prompt in picking your student up a?er the game. Keep in mind that

either Mr. Summers and/or Mr. Chitmon must remain on campus un4l every band student has le? campus with an authorized adult. *All students must return the required eld trip Parent Approval Form, and the Houston ISD Medical Release Form by Wednesday, August 28th to aJend the game. If you need either form, please see Mr. Summers or Mr. Chitmon. Please make sure your student has LONG, SOLID BLACK SOCKS FOR EACH FOOTBALL GAME PERFORMANCE & CONTEST PERFORMANCE! The band does wear the full marching band uniform at each game. The uniform is modied during the game due to the evening temperatures, but for hal"ime performances, the full band uniform is worn. The 2013 Lamar Band Shirts are expected to be delivered on Friday, August 30th. Unfortunately the shirts will not arrive in 4me for the students to wear them to school on game day, but will be available for the students to wear to the actual game.

Tutorials:

The Lamar HS Library is open each morning (M-F) at 6:30 AM and closes M-Th at 6:30 PM & Friday at 4:30 PM. Students are encouraged to aJend tutorials BEFORE school each morning so as to not conict with the a?er school rehearsals. This year Mr. Summers and Mr. Chitmon will also be implemen4ng a new "in- house" during school tutoring program beginning the 3rd week of school. More informa4on will be sent to the parents regarding this program soon.

Senior LePer Jacket FiSng:

Seniors leJer jacket mng will take place in the Choir Room (N103) Wednesday, August 28, 2013 beginning at 4:00 PM. If your senior band member needs informa4on regarding the leJer jacket they should talk to Mr. Summers.

Closing Remarks:

We had one of the most produc4ve and best aJended summer band camps in a very long 4me! The students worked extremely hard and should be very proud of themselves for all they've accomplished thus far. This is looking to be one of the most successful years the Lamar Band has ever had!
