B. Issues of the Area

East Avenue is dominantly comprised of Institutional buildings some of these building are hospitals and medical centers. Thus, it is a major road in which it is being passed by private and public vehicles such as buses and jeepneys. The main issue that exists in this area is the eligibility of the pedestrian lanes that causes the vehicles to pass by very fast and forget to slow down. Few hit and run and light car accidents are issued in this area due to the said reason above are very alarming for the safety of the pedestrians specially those who are patients in the medical centers. Moreover, the waiting sheds are not pleasing for the

pedestrians for those are already not maintained and some people of the marginalized sector are sleeping and staying there. Plant boxes exist in the area but trash bins are not that causes small trashes to be thrown into the plant boxes. Street lamps are not all working that is expected to giving light to the sidewalks but there are spots that are dim at night bringing threat and sense of fear to the pedestrians. The plant boxes are consuming half of the sidewalk that makes it hard for the pedestrians to walk comfortable especially when there are bicycles also passing by the sidewalk.

C. Design proposal

Legible pedestrian lanes will be applied through pedestrian lane art that will catch the attention of the vehicle drivers and will make them slow down. The waiting shed for pedestrian will also be improved by unifying its design for visual appropriateness. Since the East avenue have an active culture where people are all working and actively moving, sidewalks will be improved and widened, the design of the plant boxes would be linear to bring sense of direction for the passengers and legibility too. Bicycle lanes on both side of the road with parking spots near each waiting sheds will also be provided to encourage these working individuals to use bicycles instead of cars. Street lamps with solar panels will also be provided with the design in unity with the waiting shed and plant boxes to light the sidewalks during the night and to be efficient in operational costs of the local barangay. There will be additional trees to be laid in the sidewalks to give shade and cooler comfort for the surroundings.
