Class Description and Objectives


Spanish 1 is designed to teach the basic elements of the Spanish language and Spanish -speaking cultures. Through short dialogues using everyday vocabulary, you will begin to speak, read, write and understand spoken Spanish. To achieve this goal you will be engaged in various activities to develop a better understanding of the Spanish language and cultures.

In Spanish 1, you will work to be able to speak, listen, read and write at the novice high level. Which means that you will be able to converse with a native speaker in common social settings around topics such

as basic information, basic needs, likes and dislikes, activities and directions. These are essential skills for surviving in a Spanishspeaking culture.

Immersion - In
order to get there, you will be using as much Spanish as possible throughout class and you will hear your teacher speaking Spanish often.

Absences: When you are absent from class it is YOUR responsibility to get your work and turn it in the following day, unless other arrangements are made between you and Mr. Molinaro. There will be a designated place for you to pick up work that you missed. It is also your responsibility to get any in class notes from a classmate.

Late Work: Late work will be accepted, because the goal is that
you learn Spanish, and the work assigned is practice. However, skipping practice, or not doing your work until the last minute will

not help you learn Spanish and achieve the goal. Instead, it will make it much more difficult, and not only hurt you but your classmates too. Complete your work on time so that you are as successful as possible. BE RESPONSIBLE.

THE GOAL:

Make-up Tests & Test Corrections: You will always be


able to make-up an exam that you missed or improve a test score because the goal is that you speak Spanish! Just like missing work, test make-ups and corrections are your responsibility. You must schedule a time after school with Mr. Molinaro to complete the test or test corrections.

All students will be able to speak, listen, read, and write at the Novice-High level by the end of the year. All students will maintain an 80% or higher in Spanish 1.
