Osteopathy How does it work?

Osteopathy, also called osteopathic manipulative treatment, is a body therapy used to treat chronic pain. Unlike other methods which use medications and surgery, this treatment uses hands- on, body manipulation techniques which can include simple techniques such as a myofascial release as well as high- velocity, low- amplitude procedure like chiropractic manipulation. Other possible therapies which can be included are the following- straincounterstrain, Stills techniques and craniosacral rhythm therapy. Generally, these treatments can help with joint pain, muscle strain, sprains through rebalancing muscles and realigning joints. This treatment is usually used jointly with medications, exercise, health education and proper nutrition and diet to improve the health of the patient or an individual. Aside from this, they reported better physical functioning and mental health after 1 month of undergoing the treatment. In conclusion, the researchers believe that osteopathic manipulative treatment provides good results and benefits to patients experiencing low back pain. However, the specific aspect of the treatment has yet to be determined. Good results may be attributed to the range of motion exercises or the interaction with patients aside from the manipulative techniques themselves.
