A new product for pico or micro hydroelectric remote area power generation

The HEB generator

This is a floating waterwheel that can generate electricity when suspended over a river or other flowing water regardless of the depth.

The unique chevron shaped paddle treads give the barrel the ability to rotate about its horizontal axis in fast flowing water, entering the water smoothly and resurfacing without lifting water.

Merit of this design

Significant reduction of any down force and the bow wave in front of the barrel, thus increasing the efficiency of the machine

Advantages
Quiet operation compared to conventional waterwheel. Easy to transport and install.

Environmentally friendly due to shallow draft.

Cost effective to manufacture, low capital outlay per kilowatt. 24/7 operation unlike solar and wind.

Does not significantly interrupt river flow and can roll over debris.
Adjusts to water level. Need more power? Install another HEB generator.

Many possible applications:Remote area power supply for battery charging, lighting, irrigation, refrigeration, monitoring

Generator construction
Arrangement of permanent magnets and coils can be tailored to suit output relative to barrel size and water flow. An alternative may be a bolt-on geared self contained generator similar to existing hub motors

The barrel is one-piece moulded plastic with paddle treads driving permanent magnet generators installed making this a relatively light assembly for transportation and installation.

TIDAL and WAVE Variant

The HEB could be used to produce both wave energy and energy from tidal current at the same time. The barrel rolls on the waves, rising and falling to drive both hub and linear or flywheel permanent magnet generators.
Energy could be produced simultaneously by the tidal current rotating the barrel. The HEB is allowed to rotate around a post which is attached to the seabed. Some device to raise and lower the HEB in sync with tide would be needed.

Bridge Lighting
* Could be used to power lighting on remote bridges.
