Was Lukaku keeping West Brom in the Premiership?

I'd love him to stay with us. But we have to prepare for life without him - Steve Clarke

With seventeen goals out of the Albion side they wouldve only achieved thirty six goals, no surprise they havent hit the back of the net so far this season. Their first match was single goal loss at home to Southampton. Their second match was an away goalless draw at Everton. Most recently, their third match was a two to nothing loss at home to Swansea. The new signings are an attempt to fill the void at the Hawthornes with Sessegnon, Anelka, Vydra, Anichebe, Sinclair and Amalfitano brought in to improve the attacking style. Long, Rosenberg and Berahino are also in the squad this is a lot of attacking players so surely the scoring will start soon? Not to lose a match involves not conceding and with the addition of Diego Lugano should bolster their back four. West Broms holding midfielders are Yacob and Mulumbu who between them only scored two goals all of last season (2012/2013). They are there, however, to win the ball back

The defensive work by the central midfielders is effective from preventing players get through the middle and the main centre back is good at winning aerial threats (McAuley even managed to score against Portugal). Diego Lugano, signed from Paris Saint Germaine, has most likely improved the defensive positioning with his experience around Europe.

West Broms attacking options have been increased so the lack of shots on target should be improved but Anelka has been ineffective, Long nearly got sold, Anichebe couldnt get into the Everton team, Vydra has no Premiership experience, Sessegnon is inconsistent, and Rosenberg and Berahino have yet to open their Bromwich account.
