AND ESPED
A guide to successful IEP documentation.
AGENDA

Data Collection Progress Reports
Both IDEA of 1997 and IDEA of 2004 require that students IEP include a statement about how progress will be measured.
Progress monitoring helps IEP teams address any lack of expected progress toward goals.

IMPORTANT POINT
Remember that you should be calculating the mastery toward a goal. Sometimes the mastery level is less than 100 like 85%. When calculating a goal less than 100 you must complete the calculation. (Average/Aim x 100) For example what is 75% of 85%. To do this you must take 75% (average) divided by the 85% (aim, target, goal) you get .8823. You then must multiply this number by 100 this gives you how much of the 85% goal has been mastered and that is 88%. Dont get confused if your % toward mastery is higher than the aim. This simply means this student has met 88% of the 85% goal.
GOAL WRITING

Criteria
EXAMPLES:
Identify the components of the goal.
From annual to annual, when given a fictional reading passage, Johnny will read a 100 word passage at 70 words per minute independently, with no errors in 7 out of 8 trials. When given a two step word problem involving integers, Susan will solve with 70% accuracy in 4 out of 5 assignments by the next annual ARD. In 36 school weeks, when given a task or assignment, Joe will complete and turn in 7 out of 10 assigned tasks or assignments per course in a grading period.
DATA COLLECTION
How would you do it? Work with a partner to determine what data collection process you would use for the goals.

PROGRESS REPORTS
To calculate progress towards the goal/objective based on 100% as mastery, you must divide the Average by the Aim Line times 100. 55/80 = .6875 x 100 = 69 (rounds to 70%)
Complete the data collection activity then compare your answers with your elbow partner.
REVIEW
Make sure to write goals that help you collect data. Collect data on a regular basis.
Campus must develop a process for scanning and uploading approved documents.
