Jam/Bugs attack Clarkson; Morgan feels his fans love

she said to the crowd. I kept them on for the first few songs. Halfway through her set she might have started to rethink going shoeless. Oh my God, Im getting attacked by bugs, she said. Theres one in my bra. They also littered the stage, but the show must go on, she said. Clarkson continued with several of her former Billboard No. 1 hits. Her vocals were dead-on during Catch My Breath, using little effort to reach the high notes. Clarksons only miss was singing a cover of Little Big Towns Pontoon. Its a perfect song for summer and a way for Clarkson to show her love of other country bands, but this crowd heard the real thing last year during the same festival. Without the amazing harmonies that Little Big Town offers to the song, Clarksons rendition seemed lacking and stale. But she quickly redeemed herself with hit Breakaway, followed by People Like Us, and Since Youve Been Gone.

Show stopper
Craig Morgan opened for Clarkson Friday night with arguably his most popular hit, International Harvester. The country crooner, who started his career in 2000 with a self-titled album, felt the love late into his set when abruptly he stopped playing the guitar and singing in the middle of a song and said, Hey, security, I need that sign. Seconds later, the big screen showed a man in his 20s running toward the stage carrying a large sign that read We (love) Craig Morgan! After Morgan took the sign from the man, he said, Im really going to keep this. Waters is a freelancer from Lake Hallie.

Chilly, dangerous work

With the recent hot spell fresh in our minds, perhaps a cold weather scene might be a welcome sight. This group of loggers had a full load of timber ready for transport out of the forest. The photo was taken in the late 1800s near Rice Lake. The lumbering era of the late 1800s and early 1900s was the catalyst that triggered the expanded settlement of the Chippewa Valley. A picture from the Chippewa Valleys past appears in this section each Sunday.

For each Sunday and festival, four readings are suggested, including a Gospel reading, an Old Testament reading, a reading from Psalms and a New Testament reading. There are churches all over the Valley where someone will be turning the page to the same Gospel, and theres going to be a sermon or homily based on the same message, Cable said.
