Flank pain

Patients may have pain in one or both flanks.

Differential diagnosis: Patients with liver stagnation may suffer from pain in flank of
left or right side alleviated after relief from mental depression but
aggravated by emotional distress, annoyance, anger, impairment of sleep, thin tongue
coating, and wiry pulse. Patients with damp-heat pathogens may suffer from pain in
flank of right side, bitter taste in mouth, chest distress, nausea, vomiting, red or
yellow eyes, jaundice, discharge of dark yellow urine, yellow and greasy tongue
coating, and wiry pulse. Patients with blood stasis may suffer from fixed pain in flank
worse at night with history of external trauma, mass in abdomen, dark purple tongue,
and deep and uneven pulse. And patients with Yin deficiency may suffer from dull
pain in flank without fixed location and aggravated by physical exertion, sallow
complexion, hot sensation in heart, vertigo, red tongue with scanty coating, and
thready and rapid pulse. Acute and chronic diseases of the liver, gallbladder, pleura
and intercostal neuralgia recognized by modern medicine may be treated by the
following methods.

(GB 41) and Zuqiaoyin (BL 67) acupoints, a reducing technique is applied to patients
