Heat stroke

Heat stroke is an acute condition occurring in very hot weather. Its symptoms include
high fever with little or no sweating, pale complexion, hot or wet and cold skin,
restlessness, apathy, nausea, vomiting, hypotension, thready and weak and rapid pulse,
mental confusion, and muscle spasm. Heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and
sun stroke in modem medicine can be treated by the following methods.

Treatment:

Foot massage: Foot massage can be applied to the head (1), brain stem and
cerebellum (3), lymph nodes (chest, 41), stomach (15), adrenal gland (21) and balance
organ (labyrinth, 42) reflecting areas (Fig. 37).

Foot acupuncture:

1) Meridianal acupoints: At J iexi (ST 41), Neiting (ST 44), Yongquan (KI 1) and
Zutonggu (BL 66), strong stimulation with reducing and twisting technique is applied
for 5 minutes and repeated after an interval of 3-5 minutes through the
needle-retention period of 30 minutes. Moxibustion is applied to Yongquan (KI 1) for
patients with hypotension.
2) Extra acupoints: At Zuxin (EX-F 18), Dazhi J umao (EX-F 14), Xiaozhijian (tip of
little toe) and Qiduan (EX-F 23), a strong reducing technique is applied and the
needles are retained for 20 minutes.
