Started as a small manufacturer of toy ballons in 1946 Started manufacturing retreading compound in 1951

MRF faced tough competition from DUNLOP an MNC

Governments intervention saved MRF from extinction

 Dunlop incident immensly affected Mammen Mappillai and he developed immence hatred for foreign MNCs
Due to lack of funds and technology had to be contented by manufacturing bullock cart tyres Technical collaboration between MAN SFIELD TYRE & RUBBER COMPANY and MRF led to launch of MRF TYRES in the market in the year 1961 Faced tough competition from DUNLOP , GOOD YEAR CEAT & FIRESTONE in the beginning. Finally became market leader in the year 1987 .
