Pop-Up Resource Book


Project Goal Uncover the science behind a topic that interests you. After choosing a topic, conduct your research on the Internet about your topic and then create a pop-up book to show what you have learned. During your research you will analyze what impact the science behind your topic has made within the past decade. To Do 1. Choose a topic that you find interesting. Due date: October 7th 2. Conduct research on the Internet to discover the science behind it. Due date: October 24th a. Make sure to take careful notes and list your sources. b. Evaluate each website using the evaluation rubric. 3. After you have discovered the science behind your topic think about what impact it has made within the past decade. Be sure to include this information in your book. 4. Create your pop-up book. Due date: November 25th a. Attractive cover page that clearly states the topic, your name and homeroom. b. 2 specific connections to science, each on a separate page. c. Make every page detailed, colorful and include at least one picture. d. Summary explaining why you choose this topic, the impact it has made within the past decade, and how working on this project has changed your view of science e. Bibliography listing at least 3 different resources (websites) from where you gathered information. How To To create a page for your pop-up book, fold a piece of construction paper in half. Next, cut two parallel slits about an inch appear and 2 inches long into the fold. Open and pop out the resulting pedestal and glue a picture or piece of information on it. Topic Example Dogs: Science behind dogs may include: anatomy, reproduction, acute dog senses, genetic disorders, and breeding. Website Evaluation Rubric

Grading Rubric Criteria


Content Contains at least 2 connections to science. Each connection explains in detail the science behind the topic and shows a thorough understanding of scientific concepts. The report is written using the students own words with science vocabulary used correctly. Do not copy by cutting and pasting from a website or another other source this is plagiarism and will be graded as a zero. Summary Clearly explains: 1) why student choose this topic, 2) the impact it has made within the past decade and 3) how working on this project has changed students view of science. Presentation Each pop-up page features: 1) at least one picture that supports the content on that page, 2) text on each page is legible with correct spelling and grammar and 3) each page is colorful and shows creativity. Bibliography List at least 3 different resources (websites) from where the student gathered information on the topic. Remember that search engines such as Google or Yahoo are not websites and should not be listed in your bibliography. Total:
