Discussion Q & A: Session 3 25 September 2013 Warrior Day by Anne Bernays Structures and Strategies 1- Whose story is this?

Explain. Mainly the grandmas because it is in her point of view and it begins with her younger. 2- Why do you think Bernays speaks of herself in the third-person instead of the more conventional first-person? Maybe she wanted to tell it from different angles or maybe she wanted it to be about her grandson with a touch of her in it. She is proud of her grandson and it comes off more as an essay than a biography. Strangers by Toni Morrison Reading Closely 4-Whose story is Morrison telling here, the fisherwomans or her own? Why do you think so, and why does it matter whose story this is? The narrators because it is in her perspective. It matters because it sounds ridiculous and confusing if it were the other way around. Structures and Strategies 2-What is Morrisons point about the human project in this essay? Why do you think she uses story-telling to make her point? How effective do you find this strategy? We need to embrace the other versions of ourselves. It makes more sense to demonstrate the fear. It is very effective.
