Tennis

Tennis started in France by people using apples instead of tennis balls. Birmingham was were tennis the first tennis match was played. But they did not not have the facilities that we have today. For example they had white tennis balls, wooden rackets no tram lines, and wooden strings. Tennis became popular in the United Kingdom and France in the 16th century, but it was not called tennis it was called Jeu de paumme (The game of palm). Tennis then was not played with a net, it was played like squash. The rules of tennis have changed slightly in the 1970s, they added a tie break. In 1859-1970 there was no tiebreak, you had to always win by 2 games. The reason why they changed that rules is because in that time they were using a tactic called Serve and Volley which meant you serve and you go straight to the net and volley and, there was rarely a break of serve. In the 80s metal rackets were being used more often, and the game was starting to have less serve and volley, but no one thought serve and volley was finished. But when Ivan Lendl totally changed the game of Tennis. With him everyone was playing from the baseline.
