Area & Perimeter Reection

Recently, in our mathematics unit we have been learning all about measurement. We have learnt how to convert units of measurement, calculate the area and perimeter of regular/irregular shapes. In the rst few days Mr Thomas asked us if we could calculate the area and perimeter of regular shapes, such as squares and rectangles. Then as we got more advanced we were starting to calculate the are and perimeter of irregular shapes, like L shapes, with missing parts. One of the last things we did in this unit, for a fun activity, was to calculate the area and perimeter of the soccer pitch. At rst we had to do an estimate on how much it was some people used there feet to take a big step which is about a meter. Or some people wanted to be more specic so they measured there feet and then took short steps. Lastly they would convert the the their answer to meters. Then to make sure we had the right answer Mr Thomas used a trundle wheel to get the exact answer.

This unit was not a very hard one for me. I think the main problem was that I did not check my work before I handed it in to the teacher. I also used one or two methods that Mr Thomas, Ms Wright and Ms Ivy did not teach the class and apparently they said They dont like it because it is very risky and you are not sure if your answer is 100% correct. So that is why they wanted us to show our working instead of using a

method that only worked with your brain. But again my main goals for next time would be to read through my work and show a little bit more working. Goals
Read through my work before I hand it in to the teacher. Show my working so I am sure it is 100 percent correct. Lastly it would be to not rush through my work.
