Summary
Alexander Nikolayevich Radishchev(31 August 1749 24 September
1802) was a well-known Russian author and critic who lived and wrote in 18 th
Century, when the queen was Catherine the Great. One of his greatest works
was his travel-book named Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow, which he
publicated on his own in 1790. The book was in bookshops in Russia in 1970,
because it was censoured for almost 200 years. Out of the 650 copies
originally printed, only 17 survived to be reprinted in England fifty years
later. His favourite subject to write about were conditions for living in Russia,
and because of his bad critics it got him exile in Syberia till 1797.
Alexander Pushkin wanted to help Radischev with his book, because he
believed it was on of the most truthful memories on the Russia those days,
but he didnt maked it.
His father was a noble landowner, so his son, Alexander had a fine
childhood. He had a tutor and a nurse, so for his better education he was
sent to Moscow. There he went to newly establisched Moscow University,
and with dosend best students was sent to Europe for a chance to get the
best possible education on west.
Radischev's religious and philosophical views were incredibly liberal for
his time. He wanted to speak about a poor man that has no rights(like in his
book On Man, His Mortality, His Immortality). He also wanted everyone to
know about bad conditions in Russia, because the queen was very keen not
to speak about it. Sociology and economy were a bad side of that country
and he was willing to speak about it, he wanted to change that.
Unfortunately, nobody listened to him, he was misstood, so he commited a
suicide by drinking poison in 1802.
