Basic Lines and Views

Basic Lines

Object Line
A heavy, dark line which identifies the visible edge or surface of an object.

Hidden Line

Broken line, medium thickness. Used to show edges not visible.

Center Line

Fine, broken line made of alternating short and long dashes. Used to shoe the center of an object.

Dimension Line / Extension Line

Dimension Lines - used to show the extent of a dimension. Extension Lines - Used to extend a point from an object.

Leader

Fine line used to define a point or area.

Grind Surface

Cutting Plane Line

Used to indicate where an imaginary cut is made through the object.

Section Lines

Steel

Cast Iron

Copper, Bronze, Brass

Lead, Zinc, Alloys

Break Lines

Short Break Line

Long Break Line

Used to show a part has been reduced in length on the drawing to conserve space.
