PDHPE Rationale The importance of PDHPE in Primary Schools

Background

The leading cause of obesity are unhealthy food choices, lack of physical activity and family eating habits. Overweight issues can cause health and social problems for children.

How can PDHPE help?


Promotes regular physical activity Adoption to an active lifestyle Guidance to personal health choices Establishes fundamental movement and coordination actions of the body

Isnt PDHPE just about sport?


PDHPE does focus on physical education, however it also teaches students understanding and valuing of themselves and others. It also promotes: Decision making Safety Environment Healthy lifestyle choices.

By educating students about these issues through PDHPE we can ensure that children will grow up with the knowledge, understanding and the values to be healthy and active.

PDHPE is a crucial learning area in the schooling curriculum and requires the support of parents, to ensure positive health behaviours and attitudes for their children and students.
