Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in response to your advertisement in the We are young magazine, asking for volunteers to help you out with Recreational Centre for Children with Special Needs.

I am a student in my last year of high school and I have got involved so far in many extracurricular activities, including volunteering and babysitting. For almost two years, I take care of a neighbour boy aged four every weekend, thus I have gained experience with young children. While I am sitting with him, I am engaging in useful activities, such as teaching the alphabet, the colours, poems, songs, dances, games, etc.

Undoubtedly, the most important thing in the relationship with children is communication. You have to stoop to his level of thinking, in order to create a connection between two friends and not one between a child and a teenager or an adult. This encourages you to use the imagination and to remember things from childhood and, of course, to spend a pleasant time with little ones. I also participated in a workshop consisting in teaching primary school pupils to give the first aid. Even kindergarten children were involved in this workshop: they painted with fingers a huge poster about anything related to the medical environment, such as hospitals, doctors, ambulances, medical equipment, etc. I have attached some pictures of this fun and educational activity.

I would therefore be grateful if you could consider my application and accept me as volunteer. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully, Isobel Stevens
