Korean Lantern

instructions

Print the stencil on a sheet of regular paper and cut it out.

all folded up

(two)

Trace your stencil four times onto the wrong side of the paper that you intend to use for the lantern. Cut out the four lantern pieces on the solid black lines. Facing the blank side, fold each piece along all the dotted lines (see Fig. 1).

(three)

(four)

Line up the pieces left-to-right so that theyre all facing the same way. This is the orientation in which they combine to form Voltron a lantern (see Fig. 2).

Glue the lantern pieces together by their tabs. The tabs can be glued inside or outside, it doesnt matter. When the lantern is lit, the double-thickness of paper where the tabs overlap will show up anyway. You can eliminate this problem by cutting off the tabs and using clear tape instead of glue to connect the panels. Real Korean lanterns are made with a wire frame and silk or tissue panels, so they dont have this problem.
