Tagalog The name Tagalog comes from either the native term tag-ilog, meaning 'people living along

the river'. Traditionally, the Tagalogs are agriculturists, although there are a few who engage in fishing. Tagalogs have a very strict adherence to conduct politeness and respect, and this is exemplified by practices and their language structure. Bicolanos The Bicolano cuisine is primarily noted for the prominent use of chili peppers and gata (coconut milk) in its food. A classic example is the gulay na lada, known outside the region as Bicol Express, a well-loved dish using siling labuyo (native small chillies) and the aforementioned gata. Ilongo are the indigenous inhabitants of the large coastal plain of East Panay island. Over the years, intermigrations and intramigrations have contributed to the diaspora of the Hiligaynon to different parts of the country. Hiligaynon culture is part of the culture of the wider Visayan ethnic group, who constitute the largest Filipino ethnic group. Boholano The Boholano people, also called Bol-anon, refers to the people who live in the island province of Bohol. They are part of the wider Visayans ethnolinguistic group, who constitute the largest Filipino ethnolinguistic group. The "y" sound in Cebuanobecomes "j" ("iya" in Cebuano becomes "ija"), the "k" sound sometimes becomes "h" ("ako" in Cebuano becomes "aho")the "l" sound sometimes if it is used in the second or following syllable becomes "w" ("kulang" in Cebuano becomes "kuwang"). Chavacano Zamboangueo customs and traditions are quaint and replete with old world courtesy. Modernity and western influences have somewhat modified them through the years. Among them: the role of the father as the family model quite strict, specially with daughters, and the mother as the light of the family whose kingdom was the home; or table manners that required a code of courtesy; the respect for elders and visitors that saw children relegated to their rooms until guests had left; or the Zamboangueo who was often called un hombre de cojones.
