Trailer Analysis

Sound
It is evident in the opening scenes of the trailer that the voiceover present is the voice of one of the suspects. This creates a familiarity for the film and the audience, instead of an ambiguous voiceover that will depict a more formal theme. The amplified sound of the spark of fire determines the themes in the film and highlights the lack of a light hearted nature. After this scene where Keaton is punched in the face there is a distinctive change in music. This heightens the sense of the introduction to the disequilibrium to the film and this is effective because it is channelled through a violent act.

Introduction to Characters
Characters are introduced on individual screens in a typewriter form. This portrays a formality to the storyline, and the sense of precision. It also suggests that each character is an individual and we follow each of their stories throughout the duration of the film. Also, the fact they are on individual screens suggests that all five of them are significant suspects to the narration of the film.

This is the first shot used to present the 5 characters as the suspects. It is implied through the professional and formal background of police area that these characters are suspects of a serious crime if all 5 of them are involved. Their formal attire creates a juxtaposition to stereotypical criminal clothing, suggesting the sense that all is not what it seems in the film.

This 3 shot adheres to the genre of film noir due to the low lighting and simplistic yet effective nature of the shot. The lighting is only highlighted on sections of the face, creating an ideology of intrigue and mystery.

Mise-en-scene
It can be suggested that the red shirt is a connotation of danger and violence, and potentially death. This is a signifier for the storyline of the film, and the potential outcome of the suspects.

The shot of the fire being ignited is first seen at the beginning of the trailer and then at the end. This is significant due to the emphasis on the idea that the consequences in the film will be a recurring issue and as the suspects have played with fire it is likely they will get burnt.
