Do you think the steps below of the scientific method must be followed in order? Yes, because it makes it

1. State the problem (the objective in the form of a question). 2. Gather information. 3. Form a hypothesis. 4. Experiment!

Now that you are done researching and identifying your mineral fill-in the information for each step of the scientific method below. Then, number which step was first, second, etc. Objective: Use the steps of the scientific method to identify a mystery mineral. Materials: -Mineral -Streak Plate -My senses -Computer 1. Mr. Finan gave me a mineral. 2. I did the hardness test. 3. I did the streak test. 4. I wrote on my paper with it -Word -Mr. Finan - Your data

Procedure: 5. Searched what is inside pencils. 6. Found Graphite. 7. Checked with graphite. 8. Confirmed by Mr. Finan.

1. State the problem. (Hint: Just write the objective above in the form of a question.) How can I use the scientific method to identify a mystery mineral. 2. Gather information. (Look it up and/or ask an expert) *see the attached Mineral Identification Data Sheet 3. Form a hypothesis. Write a statement that tells what mineral you think yours is (your two guesses). I think that my mineral is graphite because my mineral writes just like a pencil. I also thought that my mineral was lead because I knew that used to be in pencils. 4. Start the experiment! (Follow the procedure.) 5. Record and analyze data. *see the attached Mineral Identification Data Sheet 6. Form a conclusion. This must be a paragraph that includes:
An answer to the problem (question 1). How your hypothesis compares with the actual results. (Was your hypothesis correct? If not, how close were you?) A description of your mineral and what helped you find the identification of your mineral the most.

Type your paragraph here In science, I used the scientific method to identify a mystery mineral. I used the following procedure to figure out what my mineral was. First, Mr. Finan gave me a mineral; then, I did the hardness test; followed by the streak test. When I tried the streak on paper, the streak looked the same as the mark pencils make. Next, I searched what is inside pencils. Then, I found graphite; I compared the data of graphite and my mineral; I was correct on what my mineral was. The streak of my mineral looked like that of a pencil, and I confirmed that it was graphite. My mineral was pure iron black to steel-grey, and my mineral would write really well; in fact, the name graphite means to write. The mineral was very dull and it felt soft, and my mineral was round and was very fragile. What helped me the most to identify my mineral was the fact that my mineral could write just like a pencil. With this trait, I found that it was the same material as that in a pencil. I was almost positive that this was correct and with the help of him telling me, the first letter helped me confirm. Now in the future, I can figure out what other minerals are by doing these same tests to them. 7. Communicate your results. Post this report and your Data Sheet where people can see it!
