Week 7

8:00 Free Exploration/Work time I will work with Whitley on writing her name. I will use the lined paper to write her name, which she can use to practice by tracing the letters. I will help describe the movements of her hand when writing letters to help her understanding how to write each letter; for example, I can say a W goes down, up, down, then up.

9:00 Large group Morning routine I will work on making sure students are sitting 5 Star and are ready to hear their jobs. When they arent sitting 5 Star, they tend to touch each other, talk, and deviate from the lesson. I will use positive reinforcement with the students who are sitting 5 Star, encouraging others to do the same. 9:15 Breakfast & Free Exploration I will sit with Cardin (a girl who is too shy to speak) and help her work through an activity, like the shape page. I will provide her with speaking opportunities like counting the shapes needed for the shape page.

10:10 Large group I will lead group time by discussing the AlphaSound of the week. I will be introducing the items in the sound box and the sound tub. I will try to get students to think about the items and how they match the AlphaSound; for example, I will say /d/, /d/, dog.

10:30 Free choice I will check in on Mandy and make sure she goes to the bathroom. I will make sure she uses the toilet rather than having an accident and going in her pull-up.

11:00 Large group I will try to take the initiative to be the reader during group time. I will read the read aloud to the class. Mrs. Pinkham or Miss Baker normally does the read aloud after free choice. When we head inside, I will ask Mrs. Pinkham what book she would like me to read to the class. 11:15 Lunch I will observe the students washing their hands at the sinks to ensure that the students are not cutting and are doing what needs to be done so we can quickly and smoothly transition into lunch. I will use proximity to ensure students are completing the task accurately. I will give students reminders on how to wash their hands or to wait in line when necessary.

8:00 Free Exploration/Work time I will help Logan find an activity he feels comfortable working on. I will work with him to make sure he understands the procedure, and then I will gradually move away to encourage working independently.

9:00 Large group Morning routine I will make the announcement to clean up activities. I will work on transitioning students smoothly from work time to group time. At 8:55am, I will say, Its time to clean up friends! I will encourage students to put things away and sit at circle by complimenting those who are doing that in an orderly manner.

9:15 Breakfast & Free Exploration I will help Kiera with her writing development. I will help Kiera with writing her name and sight words such as cat, dog, the, is, and so on. I will sound out each letter so that she can hear and then write each letter.

10:10 Large group I will introduce two new activities for the week. I will show children the shape activity of the week, which is a diamond, and the letter page of the week, which is D. I will also review the directions for each activity. I will remind students that the first thing they must do is write their names. For the diamond activity, I will tell them they are pasting 10 mini diamonds on the large diamond. For the D page, I will tell them they must paste ducks on the capital D and lowercase d. 10:30 Free choice I will help Sasha and Uliana join in on play by modeling language. I will go up to a student, lets say Whitley, and say, Hi Whitley, can we play with you?

Week 7

8:00 Free Exploration/Work time I will assist Dawson in finding an activity that suites him rather than having him copy all the activities and actions that Jameson is doing. I will walk around with him, viewing the different activities, seeing if any catches his interest. 9:00 Large group Morning routine I will encourage the quieter of the two calendar helpers to speak up during calendar. I will ensure that both calendar helpers make equal contributions rather than having one dominant child completing the task. I will ask the quieter of the two helpers questions like, What day of the week is it?

9:15 Breakfast & Free Exploration I will encourage students to use manners at the breakfast table. I will prompt them to reply with yes, please or no, thank you after I offer them a bagel or water.

10:10 Large group I will group together similar items in the Sound Box to move through the Sound Box in a more efficient manner. I will look into the box, visually pairing together similar items before beginning to show the Sound Box items to the students.

10:30 Free choice I will encourage Megan and Adilyn to play with other students. The girls tend to exclude others when they are together, so I will tell them the importance of being friendly with all peers in the class.

11:00 Large group I will lead students in from outdoor play; I will lead the transition from the outdoors by seating them and singing songs with them until lunch is ready.

11:15 Lunch I will encourage Karolyne to use her spoon during lunch. One major goal Mrs. Pinkham has for Karolyne is to work on life skills. Sometimes Karolyne forgets to use her spoon just because using her hands is easier for her. I will remind her to use her spoon.

8:00 Free Exploration/Work time I will work with Uliana and Sasha on a life skill activity. I will model the way the activity is shown, and then allow them to copy my procedure. This will be one way I can work with them despite our language barrier. 9:00 Large group Morning routine I will be patient and wait for the pledge leaders to start the pledge. Often times there is a student who is too shy or scared to start the pledge. I will get on their level and work with them to start the pledges.

9:15 Breakfast & Free Exploration I will start an activity with Dominic. After he understands the activity and looks comfortable, I will gradually pull away so that I can get him to work independently.

10:10 Large group I will encourage the students to sit 5 Star during the AlphaSound lesson. I will use positive reinforcement to remind students what proper group behaviors are.

I will use positive reinforcement to encourage Mandy while toilet training; for example I can say, Mandy, I am proud of you for staying dry and using the toilet, great job! 10:10 Large group I will help Mrs. Pinkham engage students in a Spanish lesson. Though I havent taken Spanish since high school, I will participate as much as possible so that I can help students participate in the lesson. When Mrs. Pinkham has students stating and repeating words, I will repeat the words loudly and proudly so students have someone to follow. 10:30 Free choice I will work on getting students lined up in a quiet and orderly fashion. Before going outside or coming inside, teachers must take roll call. Students must be quiet in order to hear their names and respond. I will sing the line up song so that students are aware thay it is now time to stand quietly for roll call. 11:00 Large group I will sit near Logan to help him sit still and pay attention during group. I will sit in close proximity to Logan. I will tell her where some of the life skills may be found (for example: Velcro can be found on shoes). 9:00 Large group Morning routine I will remember to tell students what we are having for breakfast. I often dismiss students to breakfast, forgetting to tell them what we are having. I will strive to remember to tell students what is being served before dismissing them. 9:15 Breakfast & Free Exploration I will think of the sound page activity for the week. I will brainstorm using the materials available at First School. I will remind her what she has to do to be sitting 5 Star. When she does not listen or whines, I will distance myself so that she can sit independently. 10:30 Free choice I will keep a close eye on students using the tricycles. On Friday a child on a tricycle collided into a child who was walking. I will work to direct the flow of traffic so that the students can safely and leisurely pedal on the black top. 11:00 Large group I will have students use their memory and listening skills to think about a book we have just read. I will ask questions about story details. When students have answered questions, I will dismiss them for lunch. I must brainstorm questions and pinpoint details I will ask students as I read through the book. 11:15 Lunch I will gauge students knowledge on food as I distribute lunch.
