Another new physician joins the Student Health Center
BYU adds a second new physician in the month of January to add to the 14 other qualified physicians. PROVO, Utah (January 28, 2013) The BYU Student Health Center welcomes Dr. William Jackson as the newest physician to its clinical staff due to the greater demand of missionaries and students. Dr. Jackson has experienced a long, varied career in healthcare. Since he became a physician in 1983, he has spent 26 years overseas as part of the U.S. Embassy foreign service system. At times, Jackson was over the family medicine of multiple embassies. Most recently, though, Jackson is coming off a church mission where he served as mission president in India. Jackson is a BYU graduate and loves it here. He currently teaches as an adjunct professor in the religion department and would also love teaching in the health sciences department at some point. It feels like a perfect match to come to BYU in this capacity and have the opportunity to work with the students here, said Dr. Jackson. Dr. Jackson and his wife, Ann, have eight children. The last three of their children are adopted. They also have seven grandchildren, with the eighth on the way. Jackson says it is a big adjustment for them to be settling down here because they are more used to third world countries, but they are excited for this opportunity. This is BYUs second new physician hire in the month of January. During the first part of January, BYU hired Dr. Lida Ogden as a family practice doctor. These two new hires come in a time of higher demand at the nearby Missionary Training Center which the Student Health Center serves. -more-
