Dear Hiring Manager at the Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS) Nurse Residency and Nurse

Fellowship Programs,

My name is Caton Espinola, and I have recently graduated from the University of South Florida

with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. I am thrilled to start my career in nursing and am interested

in your hospitals 10-month residency program. I would be honored to be a part of your hospital

and your team. I would love to be a part of your team because it would be surreal to work in the

same stream of hospitals that I was born in, and I would dedicate my time and hard work all to

the betterment of health and patients.

During my time at the University of South Florida I spent many years pursuing two degrees. I

received a Bachelor of Science in public health as well where I learned several important aspects

of public safety, and the use of statistics to find trends in populations. The study of different

diseases and how they affect different populations all over the world was another topic that truly

interested me and was interesting to be a part of. In my time during USF for my Bachelor of

Science in Nursing I spent many hours at the Veterans Affairs Hospital on several different med

surge units, psych units, and a chemotherapy and hematology. I spent clinical hours at John

Hopkins All Children’s where I helped caring for NICU, PICU, and Labor and Delivery patients.

I’ve learned several skills including IV placement, medication administration, therapeutic

communication and showing real empathy and care for patients, as well as wound care, EKG
assessment, and thorough assessment techniques guided by several different skilled nursing staff.

I’ve also learned about different forms of technology including electronic medical records and

the use of telemedicine. I wish to find where I belong and gather more experience and clinical

judgement to be able to better assist society and the patients that need our help in your residency

program at St. Joseph’s Hospital South.
