Philosophy
My decision to seek a career with governmental health agencies, came about when I was
a taking a microbiology class. It opened my eyes to understand and appreciate how researchers
study many different types of species under the lens of a microscope. Since 2010, I have had an
interest in joining the Center for Disease and Control (CDC).
Having a background in psychology would allow me to recognize issues with individuals
and provide exceptional solutions on a realistic level. Having public health as a minor, partners
with my psychology major, this enables me to understand how individuals develop and think.
Having the ability to use diverse knowledge, work with a multitude of populations, and
understand the different future trends in society. I believe that by having a public health minor, it
complements my major in psychology. By having a background in public health, it allows me to
gain insight in different populations and communities on a global level. This minor gives me
significant knowledge about how diseases are discovered and controlled. How we can
implement, analyze health programs, and how we can make our world a better place for living.
Working in the hospital environment during the past few months, I have followed the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) guidelines by maintaining everything that
occurs in the hospital on a professional and confidential level.
I currently volunteer at St. Vincents Medical Center. In the next few months, I hope to
gain employment within a hospital environment. In the future I hope to continue my services as a
volunteer at the Mayo Clinic. Being a volunteer with an organization in the local community is
very beneficial for an individual. It provides the opportunity to network with health professionals
and contributes in exceptional care for patients. I sincerely appreciate being a volunteer in the
hospital, whether the persons are staying as an inpatient or outpatient. Recently, I volunteered in
the hospital where another volunteering opportunity came up and I assisted them in the Hunger
Fight mission. This consisted of packing meals and building boxes for senior citizens, homeless
people, and the less fortunate. Also, insure the meals get to the population it was designated for.
My cognitive-based philosophy is to fuel the passion I have for helping those in our community,
and in recognizing there is more the public population can do to help themselves live a happy
and healthy lifestyle. My long term plan is to acquire the necessary education, experience and
skills, in order to gain employment with the Center for Disease and Control.
