S & T MANUFACTURING SANDBLASTING AND PAINTING GENERAL PAINT SPECIFICATIONS

1. SCOPE 1.1 This specification defines the practices utilized by S & T Mfg. Sandblasting and Painting related to the surface preparation and coating applications.

2. CODES AND STANDARDS 2.1 The following codes, standards, and specifications shall be used with this specification: 2.1.1 NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) 2.1.2 OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) 29 CFR 1910 2.1.3 MSDS (Manufacturers Safety Data Sheet) & recommendations 2.1.4 ODEQ (Okla. Dept. of Environmental Quality permit # 200-007-0) 2.1.5 SSPC (Steel Structures Painting Council) SSPC-SP1, Solvent Cleaning SSPC-SP2, Hand Tool Cleaning SSPC-SP3, Power Tool Cleaning SSPC-SP5, / NACE 1 White Metal Blast Cleaning SSPC-SP6, / NACE 3 Commercial Blast Cleaning SSPC-SP7, / NACE 4 Brush Off Blast Cleaning SSPC-SP10, / NACE 2 Near White Metal Blast Cleaning SSPC-VIS-1 Color Photographic Standard for Surface Preparation

3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

3.1

3.2 sandblast or 3.3 approved 3.4 3.5 film 3.6

Special precautions will be taken by means of masking to prevent any coating or overspray from bonding to area such as instrumentation, hoses, copper, brass, stainless steel, etc. Only qualified blasters and painters will be allowed to paint. All sandblasting and painting will be done with OSHA equipment. All painters shall frequently check wet film thickness with a wet film gauge. Painters shall check each applied coating with a calibrated dry thickness gauge. If coating can not be applied by spray method, coating will be applied by brush or roller.

4. SURFACE PREPARATION 4.1 4.2 Surface preparation will be per customer specification and / or manufacturer requirements, whichever is more stringent. Special precautions will be taken by means of masking with duct tape, plastic caps, plugs, etc. to prevent blasting flange faces, threads, plastic, glass, gauges, etc. Surface preparation and anchor profile shall be as specified individual coating and the specific job requirement. Abrasives for blast cleaning shall be cleaned, dry, and shall be selected to provide the proper surface profile for the coating; i.e., sand, garnet, glass bead, aluminum oxide, walnut hull, baking soda or plastic media. Soil, oil, grease or any other contamination shall be removed blasting per steam cleaning. Surfaces shall be cleaned free from dust and abrasive particles before priming. Care shall be taken to keep blasted surfaces clean from any type of contamination.

4.4 prior to 4.5

4.6 before 4.7 VIS-1

Blast cleaned surfaces shall be primed on the same day and occurrence of any type of rust. Surface preparation shall be inspected and compared to SSPC(color photographic standard for surface preparation)

5. PAINTING 5.1 with the All handling and application of paint shall be in accordance manufacturers instructions. Paint containers shall remain closed until required for use. Manufactures requirements shall be strictly adhered to. Pigmented and catalyzed material shall be thoroughly mixed being applied. All re-applications will be done within the manufactures guidelines to avoid improper adhesion between the undercoat and the overcoat. Continuous agitation spray pots will be used when applying pigmented coatings. Coating reports will be kept by S & T upon request. Coatings shall be applied uniformly per each coat. Runs, drips other imperfections in the coating are to be avoided and, if necessary, corrected. All coats shall be applied as soon as possible after the specified drying time of the preceding coat to reduce the possibility of inter-coat contamination and to ensure proper adhesion between 5.8 pass fifty percent. A crosshatched pattern shall be used in a two directional pattern on flat areas. successive coats. During application, each spray pass shall overlap the previous

Overspray shall be kept to a minimum. Any rough surfaces from overspray shall be sanded smooth and top coated again.

6. REPAIR PROCEDURES 6.1 All damaged areas are to be repaired. 6.2 If damage is to the primer coat, area of damage will be sanded down to metal using a dual action sander with the appropriate size sanding disk. Extreme care will be taken to ensure no damage to the metal surface profile. A feather edge is to be sanded into the primer around the damaged area. After completion of sanding, the area is to be cleaned free from the grindings, and primed over the cleaned area and the film thickness will be corrected. 6.3 If damage is to the intermediate or top coat, the area of damage will be sanded down to the previous applied coat or to the base of the damage. Sanding will be done carefully so as to not damage any more of the coating than needed. After sanding, the area is to be cleaned free from the grindings and subsequent coats applied. All coats are to be applied as soon as possible after the minimum specified drying time of the preceding coat. 7. INSPECTION 7.1 & T to ensure that the proper surface conditions exist. Surface is to be inspected for cleanliness, profile and to ensure that moisture, contaminants and surface imperfections are not present. Surface temperatures, relative humidity, dew point and air temperature will be monitored and logged if required during process. Prior to painting, all surfaces shall be visually inspected by S
