Is That So?! The Debriefer One random day a lesbian couple walked into a local star bucks, as the usual hipster does, they each order and sit quietly awaiting their beverages together. One sees a civilian wearing a t-shirt from Peta that suggests that Sea World abuses their animals. One of the women decides to confront the civilian to tell them that Peta does not know what they are talking about, while the other hipster woman speaks up and defends the t-shirt. The two women then begin to have a very heated discussion over the civilians t-shirt in front of everyone in star bucks while everyone just gazes in awe. The Background Hipster 1 (Indi7go the 7 is silent): Mid 20s, Caucasian, Pescetarian, was born and raised in San Diego, is known for her short temperament and loud mouth. She has been with Aadriana for 1 year now and usually finds something to fight about with her. Has worked at Sea World for 4 months. Hipster 2 (Aadriana): Mid 20s, Pacific Islander, Vegetarian turning Vegan, born in Florida raised in San Diego. Usually quiet until her intelligence is threatened then there is no knowing what might come out of her mouth. Has been studying to be a marine biologist for 2 years. Dialog Indi7go: Hey babe. Check out that shirt. What does it say? Aadriana: It says (Squints a tad) Petas for whales freedom. What do you stand for? Indi7go: Whales where? Aadriana: Oh, hold on I think there is more on the back (Aadriana squints a little harder) Aadriana: It continues to say Sea World holds animals in watery graves. Woahthats a little intense... Indi7go: WHAT?! No it is not intense (she says in a mocking tone) Its inaccurate and just plain wrong. Sea World cares for its animals 100% of the time! We care and protect our animals.

Aadriana: K babe, calm down. His shirt does have a point though. Ive been reading in class that most whales held in captivity are more likely to have sooner deaths. Indi7go: That. Is. Some. Pretty grade A bullshit babe. How about you work at Sea World for a month and then talk. Aadriana: Ok. Seriously you need to calm down. Its not that serious. Indi7go: NO. It is serious. Its misleading people to believe something thats not true. Im going to go over there and say something. Aadriana: Really? Is that necessary babe? Cant we just get our Caramel Lattes and talk this over at our loft? Please. Indi7go: Dont under mind me! (Yells across the room) Hey guy! Aadrian: oh no (Holds palms to forehead as to block out what is going to happen) Civilian: Me? Indi7go: Yea you. Do you even really know what happens at Sea World? Ive been working there for quit sometime now and we do not mistreat our animals. Civilian: Look its only a shirt. Its not even mine. It my girlfriends. Im not even fully sure what Peta is to be honest. Aadrian: (stands up and walks towards Indi7go) (whispers) Babe come back and leave this guy alone. Youre scaring him and (whispers louder and more aggressive) half of Star Bucks. Indi7go: K. Fine (Both Indi7go and Aadrian go outside with their orders and sit to discuss in depth about Sea World) Aadrian: Ok. We can look up all types of information on our phones and then put it all together so we can have a reasonable discussion. Indi7go: I dont need my phone. Im just going to tell you information as a Sea World employee, because I have firsthand experience. Aadriana: Fine. (Pulls out phone) Ok. So it says here that While obtaining Shamu her mother was killed, before her eyes, and then the young Shamu was transferred to a safe facility called Sea World. That seems kind of not rad. Indi7go: Ok. Yea, but does it say why they did that? You dont know the environment that Shamu was living in previously. I bet it doesnt say anything about that. What if Shamus mother was threating Shamus life more than you know and they did what they had to do. Aadriana: Here is another article that talks about the captivity of the whales. It states, The life expectancy for orcas in the wild is 60 to 70 years for females and 80 to 90 years of age for males.

They also discovered that the life expectancy for orcas held in captivity is roughly about 9 years. How in the world can you defend that?! Indi7go: First of all, we Sea World employees care for the animals with the upmost respect. We feed them regularly and help them bathe. However long they stay alive varies on so many whales. Some of the whales we receive are already damaged and come in with pre-diagnosed symptoms. Aadriana: Fine. Fine. I can see partly why you are upset, but I feel like there is more reasonable evidence that assures that most of the time Sea World may not be the best place for an animals that was born in the wild and then is taken and put into a small bath tub for the rest of its life. Indi7go: Well actually some of the whales are bread there. So some of the animals have never been outside of the bath tubs as you call it. Aadriana: Thats FUCKED UP! Are you kidding?! These animals are meant to be free and live life on their own terms not someone elses whose only objective is to use them for childrens entertainment. Indi7go: Relax! Im sure theyre happy! Aadriana: What department do you work for in Sea World again? Indi7go: Im a waitress in the restaurants remember?! Aadriana: (Angered by what she just hears, gets up and walks away quietly while dropping her cup of coffee in disdain not looking back once)
