4. Clicking on 2Add3 will ,ring up the 2Component 5ist 6iew3 which is a list of all the components a7aila,le in HYSYS. + pe in the name of the desired component in the 'atch window and click on 2Add Pure3 to add it to the simulation. Close the Component 5ist 6iew when all of the components are selected. Note: +he Full Name8S non m option makes finding components the easiest. +o enter components , HYSYS9s simulation names1 or , chemical composition1 select 2Sim Name3 or 2Formula3 respecti7el . Selecting a Fluids Package 1. :n the Simulation &asis 'anager1 click on the 2Add3 ,utton to specif a fluids package. (oing so will ,ring ou to a list off all the different e;uations of state HYSYS uses.
4. Pick the appropriate fluid package for the s stem ou wish to distill. +o select the appropriate package1 dou,le click on the te<t that is displa ed. See the figure ,elow for some general guidelines on picking the appropriate fluids packages.
Specif ing !eactions :f the simulation is going to ha7e an kind of reactions during it1 the reactions need to ,e specified in the Simulation &asis 'anager. For this case the com, ustion of 'ethane will ,e specified. 1. Click on the 2!eactions3 ta,1 and then click on 2Add !eaction3
4. (oing so ,rings up a window where the t pe of reaction is specified. For this case select Con7ersion1 and then click 2Add !eaction3
". Now the components of the reaction must ,e specified. Click on the arrow on one of the ta,s to ,ring up a list of the components for this case. Select all of the components that are present for the com, ustion of methane.
=. Now the stoichiometric coefficients must ,e entered. #nter in educated guesses for the coefficients1 keeping in mind that the coefficients for the reactants ha7e to ,e negati7e1 and the coefficients for the products positi7e. +hen click ,alance to ha7e HYSYS automaticall ,alance the reaction.
$. Since this is a con7ersion reaction1 click on the 2&asis3 ta, to specif the con7ersion of this reaction. Click on the ta, ne<t to 2Co3 and enter in the desired con7ersion of the reaction. 'ake sure ou enter the con7ersion in percentage form1 not decimal form. :n other words1 enter in 0$ rather then .0$. After entering in the con7ersion the reaction ,ecomes read after this step. Close the !<n%1 window1 and return to the Simulation &asis 'anager.
). Since the reaction has ,een correctl setup1 it must ,e added to a reaction set1 and then ha7e that set added to a Fluid Package. Click on 2Add Set3 and then add !<n > 1 to the Acti7e 5ist1 and then close the window.
-. Now the !eaction set must ,e added to the Fluid Package. Click 2Add to FP31 select the appropriate reaction set1 and then click 2Add Set to Fluid Package3 on the new window. After doing so1 the reaction is completel read to go.
"ntering the Simulation ?nce the components1 fluids package and applica,le reactions are selected1 the Simulation is read to ,e run. Click on 2#nter Simulation #n7ironment3 in the Simulation &asis 'anager window.
4. #nerg streams are used to specif how much energ a process unit such as a pump or compressor needs. +o place an energ stream1 click on the red arrow on the simulation tool,ar1 and then place it on the simulation window.
!enaming Streams :n order to make the simulation eas to follow1 the streams need to ,e renamed. (ou,le click on the arrow to ,ring up the properties window for stream 1. +o rename it1 click on the ta, ne<t to 2Stream Name3 and simpl t pe in the appropriate name for it.
Placing 'nits +o place process units1 simpl select them from the Simulation +ool,ar1 and place them on the PF(. Note: :f the cursor ho7ers o7er an item on the tool,ar1 a te<t ,o< appearsB telling which item is going to ,e selected.
Accidentall Closing the Simulation (ool )ar Sometimes1 people will accidentall click the small @ on the Simulation +ool,ar. +o get it ,ack click on the ,utton to ,ring it ,ack.
Specif ing a &aterial Stream 1. :n all chemical processes1 a num,er of properties or degrees of freedom must ,e specified. +o specif properties a stream1 dou,le click on it to open up the specification menu. Select the appropriate column and simpl t pe in the 7alues of the specification. Note: HYSYS allows ou to enter in an unit ou wish. +o specif the unit of the num,er that is ,eing entered in1 simpl click on the arrow ne<t to the unit to ,ring down a menu. Simpl select the desired unit to input.
4. Cust specif ing the flowrate1 temperature and pressure is not enough to full specif the properties of the stream1 thus no calculations can occur on it. +o full specif the stream1 click on the te<t la,eled 2Composition3. +o enter in the compositions Click on the ,o< that sa s 2Dempt A3 and enter in .-.
". (oing so will ,ring up a new window called 2:nput Composition for StreamE Feed3. #nter in the remaining compositions of the streamB keeping in mind that the total fractions must add up to 1 otherwise an error will result. Note that different composition ,asis can ,e selected on the right. After entering in the composition1 the stream color will turn from tur;uoise to a dark ,lue.
#ork)ooks 1. +o get a more in%depth1 printa,le 7iew the stream properties1 HYSYS can create a work, ook. +o create a work,ook1 clicking 2+ools3 >A 2/ork,ooks3 will ,ring up the work, ook selector. (ou,le click on 2Case3 to ,ring up a summar of all the properties on the process and energ streams. 4. +o add additional properties not displa ed , default1 click on 2/ork,ook3 >A 2Setup3 in the main tool ,ar. ?nce there1 click on 2Add3 under the 6aria,les section and scroll down until the desired propert is located. Close the Setup window and the work, ook is now updated with the desired properties. Note: +he 2/ork,ook3 option in the main tool ,ar will onl ,e present if the work, ook is open.
Printing +o print the work,ook1 lea7e it open and go to File >A Print in the main tool,ar. :f the entire work, ook doesn9t need to ,e printed1 click on the 2F3 and deselect the undesired sections1 and then click Print.
